Nov 12, 2015- Nepali people living in Britain on Thursday greeted the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a huge demonstration upon his arrival in London for a three-day visit to the UK.Hundreds of Nepali people took part in the peaceful demonstration organised to protest against India’s “unofficial blockade” on Nepal. The protest began at around 12 in the noon outside the British Prime Minister’s office at 10 Downing Street.
The Nepali demonstrators carrying placards reading anti-Modi and anti-India slogans spontaneously flocked the street. They were supported by UK-based Sikh people. The scene outside the British Parliament and Prime Minister’s office looked chaotic, while the security had been beefed up in the area.
UK Chapter of Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Prabasi Nepali Manch-UK, and Nepali Janasamparka Samiti UK, among three dozen Nepali organisations, took part in the protest to express solidarity with the protest.
The organisers said the protest was oroganised to draw the attention of international community towards the crisis in Nepal due to India’s unofficial blockage and raise the transit right issue of a landlocked country Nepal.
Saying that it high time Nepali people dealt the challenges facing the nation by rising above the self and institutional interests, the participants warned not to interfere in Nepal’s internal matters.
